Former Brazilian Champion Allyson Martins Joins Team FORCE/Pedro's Judo

Former Brazilian State Champion, Allyson Martins, joins Team FORCE / Pedro’s Judo Center. Allyson moved to Boston, Massachusetts in 2016 to pursue his Masters Degree and came to Pedro’s Judo Center to just get some regular practices in. However, this soon reignited his passion for the sport of Judo.

“I am very happy to start this new stage in my life. When I was younger I had some pretty decent results, but my goal was always to become an Olympic medalist and earn international medals. Between 2006 & 2007 I suffered a lot of different injuries and that forced me to stop competing. This gave me time to focus on my professional career where I earned my Bachelor’s degree” said Martins.

However, he still felt as if something was missing from his life. Still dreaming of his “old Judo goals” and reminiscing on his competition days, this prompted Allyson to restart his judo training. “I just thought to myself, this is the last opportunity that I have in life for judo training, I can study during the day and go to Judo at night, this is perfect!” said Martins.

Joining the same team that produced Olympic medalists such as Kayla Harrison and Travis Stevens was a dream come true for Allyson. Working with Olympic Coaches Jimmy Pedro and his father Jim Pedro Sr was exactly what Allyson needed to get back into the competition scene.

“I know very few people with such a high work ethic and knowledge of the sport. Their systems on gripping, matwork and developing gameplans are second to none. Growing up I was always a fan of Jimmy Pedro, to work with him know is unbelievable!” concluded Martins.

Allyson competed this year for the first time in nearly a decade with results at the Ocean State International, US Open, Bay State Games and the Veteran World Championships…and this is only the beginning.
